Researching Gender, Politics, and Power

Before you start searching, develop KEYWORDS to use in your searches. Be CREATIVE and keep adding new terms as you learn them. For example if you were interested in "representations of women in movies" you wouldn't want to only use those words when you search. Take the time to brainstorm - not just MOVIES, but:

Broader Terms: MEDIA, MASS MEDIA, MASS COMMUNICATION, POPULAR CULTURE

Related Terms: FILM, MOTION PICTURES, CINEMA

Narrower Terms: DOCUMENTARIES, ROMANTIC COMEDIES, SHORT FILMS

Use these KEYWORDS to create searches:

women AND "mass media"

girls AND "motion pictures"

comedy films AND ("female actors" OR actresses)

For more information on creating searches, check out the FINDING ARTICLES, FINDING BOOKS, and WEB SITES tabs.
