BIOL 155/255: Investigating Immunity with Michelle Messmer: Modern Scientist

Selecting a Modern Scientist

For this assignment, you will research a modern scientist who is currently researching and publishing on your topic. Here are some ideas for finding a scientist:

  • Notice who wrote the sources you have consulted so far and search their names with the relevant term to see if they are still publishing
  • Search for your term in Google Scholar and use the date filter on the left to narrow to 2021-present
  • Make an appointment with Haley to research

Example

Here is an example of how this could look:

Topic: killer t cells

Google Scholar search: killer t cells

Click the "Since 2021" filter.

When using Google Scholar, make sure to choose articles with PDF links on the right. Clicking these links will go to full-text articles. Do not click the title result as that will usually be behind a paywall. Questions? Ask Haley.

Choose an article: Review the results and open the PDFs that look interesting.

Choose a researcher: Look at the names of the researchers - each one will have an institution listed with their name, usually with a superscript number.

Search for the author and their institution: Shivani Arora Diabetes Center, University of California, San Francisco

Review their Google Scholar page for more articles: Shivani Anora
