Welcome to the Resource Guide for CYFS 420 -  Guide for your Pre-Practicum activity.  Use this guide to find valuable information about the agencies that interest you for your practicum. 


Below are directories and websites to help you explore different agencies with whom you would like partner for your practicum.  Explore the organization's information by reviewing their ABOUT US page to see what they have to say about their organization.

Assignment Questions:

 

  1. Identify and contact three potential agencies from the Practicum Placement Site.
  2. Contact the Agencies.  List the agency, their mission/vision, contact information. Document efforts to connect with the three agencies.
  3. Meet with the Practicum Coordinator -- Noelle Hoori, LSW. Share meeting summary.
  4. Send the agency the contact to be signed. Get the contract signed. Submit the signed contract.

 

Research Questions:

Here are some questions to get you started. The questions are optional except for the last three questions which are underlined and listed in bold print. 

  • Locate the webpage for the agency. What are three important service-oriented things you found out about the agency that you did not know?
  •  What were you able to learn about the agency’s philosophy or approach?
  • Were you able to identify contact people for the agency? Who are they and what is their role at the agency? 
  • How might you use the information you found?
  • What did you find out about this company when you looked at Mergent Intellect? If you did not find the company, what was the exact name you entered for the company? Did you enter any other names for the company?
  • How might you use the information you found?
  • Were you able to find any connections through LinkedIn? What do you think about using those connections?
  • If you decide to use the connections, what steps will you need to take to do so? If you do not decide to use the connections, how do you plan to get in touch with someone at the agency? 
  • Did you already know of this organization or did you find out about it through other sites, other students or in another way?   What do you know from these sources? 
  • Besides the agency's website, name two other sources you checked where you found information about this agency. Attach links to articles, people, or other resources.   
  • Do an online search of the agency and/or its staff. Identify three new pieces of information you learned about the agency or people who work there. This might include news articles, reviews or other agency information. This information should NOT come from the agency's website. 
  • What did you learn about the values of the agency in terms of the agency aligning with what you value? Will you seek out a practicum at this site? Why or why not?
