Monday, January 16th is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Join the celebration at Edmonds College on Tuesday, January 17th.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a national holiday to honor and celebrate the life and legacy of civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  It is held on the third Monday of January each year. This guide provides resources by and about Dr. King.  Explore them to learn about, and be inspired by, his life and the Civil Rights Movement that challenged the laws and institutions of racial injustice.

Letter From a Birmingham Jail

While jailed for violating an injunction against protesting, in April, 1963, Dr. King wrote a letter in response to white local clergy who criticized his work and in support of the importance of civil rights protesting.  This important document is known as the "Letter from a Birmingham Jail." On August 28, 1963, Dr. King delivered this iconic speech at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, before a crowd of 250,000 people who came to the Washington to demand equality and justice.
