AI detectors are tools that are developed or designed to identify the presence or use of AI in generating content. With the emergence of AI tools, many AI detectors have also been developed and are available to identify the AI generated content.
Below is a list of some AI detectors. To use these AI detectors, you may need to register an account. Most of these AI detector tools are free, although some may be free with limitations such as a daily usage limit.
How Reliable Are They?
Though they are claimed or advertised to be the new line of defense against AI cheating or plagiarism, the reliability and accuracy of AI detectors have been questioned. Studies have found that AI detectors can generate inconsistent results across platforms, producing false positives/negatives and uncertain classifications. Therefore, when educators use AI detectors, they need to be cautious about the limitations of these tools and combine them with other preventive measures or steps to minimize potential cheating or plagiarism involving AI.
Check the resources below for discussions on the limitations of AI detectors and how to use them with caution
If you suspect a student is violating academic integrity involving AI, please refer to the EC student code of conduct and the school policy.
