History 118, Western Civilization III, with Katie Simonton: Find Background Information

Developing a Topic

How do you choose a topic? Try these tips:

  • Think about the readings you have done in class - what is most interesting to you?
  • Type a topic into Google and review the first results without clicking on any - what do you see?
  • Use a reference book in the library or a reference source online to browse the era/civilization you are interested in
  • Think about aspects of civilization to narrow your topic: food, communication, dance, marriage, art, gender roles, religion, etc

Reference Books in the Library

These reference materials are a good place to start to determine if your topic will work for this assignment.
