History 148, US History III, with Katie Simonton: Finding Primary Sources

Primary Source Archives

Historical New York Times

Use the Historical New York Times database to see how the media reported on your topic at the time. We have access to 1851-2014 in this database (newer articles are in the ProQuest Research Library database). Search by keyword or on a specific date (remember to search for the day(s) after a specific event i.e. September 12, 2001 for stories about 9/11).

Use the Publication Date dropdown on the advanced search screen to find articles published on a specific day

You will be able to see a scan of the original newspaper with cartoons, advertisements, and surrounding articles to give context. Click on Page View PDF to get this full page view.
