Shadow Lake Nature Preserve Forest Restoration Work Party

Perform active forest restoration, habitat enhancement, and trail maintenance within the upland forest at
SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve in Renton. All restoration activities help to ensure the long-term health and
sustainability of SHADOW Lake bog and the surrounding Duwamish watershed. Additionally, students will be
educated about the importance and function of Shadow Lake Bog’s unique ecology and hydrology, and the
actions SHADOW is taking to protect this vital habitat.

Urban Forest Restoration: Longfellow Creek


Join the King Conservation District (King CD) at the Brandon Street Natural Area, a Seattle Park along
Longfellow Creek. Longfellow Creek is one of the last salmon bearing streams left in Seattle. Help to maintain
trails, remove invasive species or plant native trees and shrubs. Come learn about the forest ecology and the
important functions that our urban forests provide. Volunteers will receive an introduction to different
restoration techniques. Transportation and light snacks are provided.
